The Eighth African Rift Geothermal Conference.

The Government of the Republic of Kenya hosted the Eighth African Rift Geothermal (ARGeo-C8) Virtual Conference in partnership with UNEP, GDC, KenGen, GAK, AUC, and IGA-ARB. The ARGeo-C8 VIRTUAL conference was facilitated by UNEP in Nairobi and ran from 2nd to 6th November 2020 as originally planned, with the exception of the Field Trips. The Conference consisted of the following:

  • 2-3 November 2020: The Short Courses
  • 3 November 2020: Kenya Investment Forum
  • 4-6 November 2020: The Main Conference
Objectives

The theme of the ARGeo-C8 Virtual Conference was: “Seizing the Moment: Investing in Geothermal Resources for Sustainable Development.” The main objective of this virtual conference was to promote regional cooperation and create an information exchange platform on the exploration, development, investment, and utilization of geothermal resources in the region and globally. This virtual international conference brought together policy makers, technical experts, developers, and financiers from international and regional delegates. The conference provided an online platform to explore solutions on how to: (i) mitigate the risks associated with resource exploration, (ii) attract private developers to fast track geothermal development, (iii) reduce lead times in developing geothermal projects, (iv) leverage investment to stimulate industry growth, and (v) effectively develop, construct, and operate successful geothermal power plants.
